A comfortable space for the whole family to gather.
Our clients came to us looking to update their kitchen and family room area. A good amount of space existed, but door locations made the traffic flow awkward, use of space inefficient, and kept light out of a lot of the space. The kitchen was also in need of updating and modernization. The goal was to open up the entire space to change two rooms into one and make one space where the whole family could gather together. This was accomplished by completely gutting and remodeling the entire area. The central piece in the floorplan is a dual height L shaped island that separates and ties together the kitchen, eating area and family room. The island functions as a second prep area, a breakfast bar, and a serving space. The fireplace was relocated to the back section of the space, allowing the space adjacent to the kitchen to be used for an eating area and built in desk. A raised ceiling in the living room section adds height and makes the room feel grand. Light now pours into the space, making it light and bright all day long.
Finishes are clean, simple and easy to maintain. The cabinetry, fireplace mantel and entertainment center are all maple. A slightly darker oak floor sets off the woodwork throughout and keeps the space feeling warm. Countertops are a green colored quartz product and backsplash tiles are a simple ceramic, to withstand the day to day use of an active family. Bits of color are dropped in with the glass light fixtures and the deco tiles in the backsplash. The end result is a place where the family spends most of their time now. Whether they are cooking, doing homework, surfing the internet or watching TV, they can all do it together in one comfortable space.
